OPERATIONS AND DEVELOPMENT FELLOW
Yspaniola is a Dominican-American education nonprofit building a model of high quality education programs in Batey Libertad from pre-kindergarten through university. After creating successful programs in Batey Libertad, we will replicate our model in other bateys and marginalized communities in the Dominican Republic. Yspaniola’s vision is to provide graduates of our programs the tools they need to successfully advocate for themselves and their communities. Yspaniola also operates Experiential Learning trips for high school and university students from countries outside of the Dominican Republic to raise awareness about international development and social justice issues on the island.

Yspaniola is seeking a year-long Operations and Development Fellow to support key programmatic initiatives in the Dominican Republic. Each year, Yspaniola recruits highly skilled recent university graduates to work with us. We are committed to mentoring fellows to develop their capacity and understanding of international non-profit management, operations, and development. Yspaniola fellows will have the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to our programs and may also choose to develop a project based on their own interest. This position will report to the Director of Operations and the Director of Development.

Responsibilities:
Operations
- Experiential Learning - support the Director of Operations with planning and executing Experiential Learning trips
- Youth Committee Capacity Building - support Director of Operations in capacity building of local youth committee
- University Scholarship Program - assist with operations related to the University scholarship program and support scholars in meeting the requirements of their degree programs
- Summer Camp - support local team in recruitment and selection process of international volunteers
- Other administrative tasks as necessary

Development
- Media and Content Creation - maintain and grow Yspaniola’s online presence with engaging content for social media, newsletters, campaigns, and La Revista Libertad
- Fundraising - support Development Director with organizational fundraising strategy and reporting
- Research - conduct and present research related to development and outreach
- Donor Communication - support implementation and management of Yspaniola’s new donor database
- Monitoring & Evaluation - collect and present data for fundraising and operational reporting

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor's degree
- Proficient in Spanish; fluent or Native speaker preferred
- Demonstrated interest in social justice issues; knowledge of international development and/or Caribbean history & culture preferred
- Belief in Yspaniola vision and values; passion for community and asset-based approaches to education and development
- Effective verbal and written communicator
- Experience working in a low-income community, either in the US or abroad (volunteer experience may be relevant)
- High level of cross cultural sensitivity and excellent interpersonal skills
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
- Sense of humor and a high level of flexibility
- Creative thinker, able to take initiative on new projects
- Experience working with children a plus
- Familiarity with French or Haitian Creole a plus

PHOTOGRAPHY AND MEDIA ASSISTANT (Intern)

Yspaniola also operates Experiential Learning trips for high school and university students from countries outside of the DR to raise awareness about international development and social justice issues on the island. 

Yspaniola is seeking a Photography and Media Assistant to create outstanding digital content for Yspaniola’s website, social media and communications channels. The ideal candidate will be an experienced photographer with top-notch media skills for working across a variety of social platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Your work will support Yspaniola’s day-to-day social media presence, as well as providing both photography and written content for fundraising and communications campaigns as required. We ask for a minimum three-month commitment.

Yspaniola interns have the opportunity to meaningfully contribute to our work, and may also choose to develop a media project based on their own interest. This internship offers an incredible opportunity to work in the small, close-knit community of Batey Libertad, as part of a passionate, busy team of local and international staff. The Photography and Media Assistant will report to the Director of Development. Interns are required to pay a fee to cover housing, food and transportation while in the country, but Yspaniola can assist in fundraising or applying for school-sponsored funding.

Responsibilities:
- Capture the essence of Yspaniola’s work and the community of Batey Libertad with high-quality photography
- Create effective communications aimed at storytelling and fundraising
- Devise creative new ways of showcasing Yspaniola’s work through communication and social media campaigns
- Contribute to the development of Yspaniola’s Media & Communications Strategy
- Conduct interviews with Yspaniola staff and/or Batey Libertad community members
- Draft and publish social media posts, written articles and e-newsletters
- Liaise with Yspaniola staff and community members to organize shoots and interviews​
- Manage multiple media projects simultaneously and meet deadlines

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:
- Bachelor's degree in photography, photojournalism, marketing, media communications, or relevant professional experience
- Must have own camera and professional editing software, additional experience in graphic design a bonus
- Proficient in Spanish; fluent or Native speaker ideal
- Demonstrated interest in social justice issues; knowledge of international development and/or Caribbean history & culture preferred
- Belief in Yspaniola vision and values; passion for community and asset-based approaches to education and development
- Effective verbal and written communicator
