Experiential and Service Learning Coordinator
Yspaniola is a Dominican-American education nonprofit, building a model of high quality education programs in Batey Libertad, Dominican Republic, from pre-kindergarten through university. After creating successful programs in Batey Libertad, we will replicate our model in other bateys and marginalized communities in the Dominican Republic. Currently, Yspaniola’s academic programming includes the operation of a Learning Center, a university scholarship program, and a summer camp. Yspaniola serves over 150 students ages 3 to 17, along with 4 college students from Batey Libertad. Yspaniola’s vision is to provide graduates of our programs the tools they need to successfully advocate for themselves and their communities.

A key component of our strategy is to include international students and graduates in our programs. Yspaniola operates experiential learning trips for high school, university, and graduate students. These trips provide a way for students to create connections directly with people in Batey Libertad and learn about issues facing batey residents. We also provide meaningful volunteer experiences over the summer. In the past, we have hosted students from the US, Mexico, Canada, and France. Yspaniola believes that creating international support for education and human rights in bateys is essential to create lasting change. This position reports directly to the Director of Operations.
